Description of The Hermit
The Hermit card depicts a man wrapped travelers robes amidst an barren snow-covered wasteland. In his right hand, he holds the Lamp, brightly light with a six-pointed star; his left hand is gripping his staff. He keeps his head down and lets the lamp, or Light of Truth, guide his path, not veering to the left or the right.
"Trismegistus's lamp illuminates the present, the past, and the future; lays bare the conscience of man; and illiminates the most hidden secrets of women. The lamp shines with a triple flame; the mantle is folded three times; the staff is divided into three parts. " - Éliphas Lévi
The Hermit is a reference to Hermes Trismegistus and the Hermetic system of mental alchemy, whereby one can master the self.
